The former militant and leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo who was arrested and detained in Cotonou, Benin Republic on Tuesday has been released.
Street Journal gathered that he was released following negotiations between Asari’s country of birth and his adopted country. His release has been confirmed by his lawyer, Festus Keyamo.
Street Journal also gathered that the former militant was flown to Abuja a few hours after his release. Dokubo adopted citizenship of the Republic of Benin in protest against the refusal of the Nigerian government to recognize an Ijaw nation.
