The purportedly slain leader of the Boko Haram terrorist organization, Abubakar Shekau has appeared in yet another video in which he claimed to have led the October 24 attack on Damaturu, Yobe State.
In the video which was released on Sunday and titled “Battle of Damaturu” in Arabic, Shekau who spoke for about 11 minutes in Hausa, Arabic and Kanuri languages said “look at what happened in Damaturu (capital of northeastern Yobe state), since we killed them with our hands — in fact I was the commander of the operation — so, you cannot say I’m making conjecture.
This is a brief message to the world. We carried out the Damaturu attacks with Allah’s help, with Allah’s might, with Allah’s glory and with victory from Allah, the Creator”.
After the attack, 35 bodies in military uniform were found in a morgue in the Yobe State capital. The attack which happened at dusk saw the insurgents storming police formations which they burnt after which they engaged security agents in gun battles that lasted for hours. A 24-hour curfew which was relaxed some days after was imposed shortly after the attack.
