The State Security Service (SSS) on Wednesday in Abuja paraded five suspected Boko Haram members who allegedly planned deadly attacks on Igala, Kogi State.
Dr. Mohammad Nazeef Yunus, an Assistant Lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Studies at Kogi State University was alleged to be the Spiritual Leader and Coordinator of the deadly sect in the state.
Yunus obtained a degree in Arabic Studies from a university in Medina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after which he did his Maters in the University of Jos. He also holds a PhD in Islamic Studies from the Kogi State University.
The other 4 suspects included Umar Musa, said to be an instructor of the terrorist gang, Mustapha Yusuf, Ismaila Yunusa, Mohammed Nasir, and Ibrahim Isa.
According to SSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, the suspects were planning to carry out an attack on Igala but were arrested at Zuba white mosque near Abuja on their way to Sambisa in Maiduguri for training. She disclosed that they also had plans of installing Sharia in Kogi State.
Umar Musa confessed that he was employed by Boko Haram as Instructor after he lost his job with the state teaching hospital, and was taken to the Sambisa camp of the sect for a week’s training on handling weapons. He said he was deployed to the education unit of the camp as an instructor and placed on a monthly salary of N50,000. He also disclosed that he and Yusuf returned from Sambisa and re-united with Nazeef in Kogi State where they plotted to carry out violent attacks in Igala land. He stated that Nazeef was the one who appointed him the Head of Operations and instructor.
Mustapha Yusuf, the Armourer and Ismaila Abdulazeez admitted knowing Nazeef. They stated that he taught them Jihad and Islamic Sharia.
