Kabiru Umar Abubakar, the alleged mastermind and prime suspect of the 2011 Christmas Day bomb attack on St Theresa’s church in Madalla, Niger State was on Friday sentenced to live imprisonment. The sentence was passed by Justice Ademola Adeniyi of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Kabiru Sokoto was arrested in January, 2012. He was rearrested after he escaped while a search was to be conducted on his residence.
Apart from the Christmas Day bombing which killed 44 people, Kabiru Sokoto was also found guilty of planning to bomb the Police Headquarters in Sokoto State.
The court also heard that Sokoto trained over 500 people for terrorism purposes. Meanwhile, Sokoto’s counsel, Sherif Okoh has stated that they will approach the appellate court.
