APGA Chairmanship Tussle: Court Rules in Favour of Maxi Okwu

An Abuja High Court presided over by Justice Abdul Kafati, on Wednesday sacked Chief Victor Umeh as the chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). The court ordered INEC to recognise Maxi Okwu as APGA’s authentic chairman.

Maxi Okwu had filed a suit against Umeh and all the officers of the party seeking an order directing the officials to vacate their offices as he claimed that they were not elected in accordance with article 18(4) of the party’s constitution.

The sectionstipulates that elections into offices of the party should be done via secret ballot.

Okwu also sought an order to compelt Sani Shinkafi, the National Secretary of the party to vacate his office having exhausted his two terms of 4 years each in office.

Okwu prayed the court to declare him theauthentic national chairman of the part and also direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deal with him as such
