Aderemi’s name will remain in the history books of Ekiti State as the head of the legislature that facilitated the first impeachment of any Governor in the state as well as the shortest serving Governor. Though under his leadership, the legislative arm had enjoyed a chummy relationship with the the executive led by Ayo Fayose. Things however changed and on October 16, 2005, the then Governor, Ayo Fayose and his Deputy, Hon Abiodun Olujimi were impeached, against what many believed was a presidential directive to spare Mrs Olujimi and pave way for her to become the first female Governor in the country
. In a brief ceremony, the then Chief Judge went on to swear Aderemi in as the Governor of Ekiti State, only for the President to declare a state of emergency in the state, thereby ensuring that the former Speaker did not govern the state for more than a few hours.
