When 23 year-old Olusuyi Ayomide of Atapila CampArea of Odeda Local Government Area, Abeokuta left home for church last Sunday, he never knew he would be passing the night in a police cell, from where he would be dragged to court. He was caught around 12.50 pm with two Blackberry phones, both stolen during services of two of the Pentecostal churches he attended that day.
Street Journal gathered that the suspect went into the churches one after the other while the services were on and smartly stole the phones from members of the congregations od the churches. He was however apprehended by the policemen attached to the Obantoko Police Station with the help of members of the churches.
Spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the young man’s parents have given up on him as they confirmed that he is a notorious thief and recalcitrant.
In a statement signed by Adejobi, the state’s Commisioner of Police, CP Ikemefuna Okoye advised people of the state to be more conscious and protect their property from hoodlums who paarade themselves as neighbours or friends like the suspect who pretended as a member of the congregation to steal. The CP also urged the public, particularly Churches or any worship centres to solidify their internal security arrangement that must be highly connected to the police around them for protection and adequate security.
