The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed the appointment of Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, a former Governor of Bauchi State as the National Chairman of the party pending the election of a new Chairman.
At a meeting presided over by Uche Secondus, the Deputy National Chairman, Section 47 (6) of the PDP Constitution was invoked. The said section empowers the party’s NEC to fill a vacancy following the resignation of an elected official.
Alhaji Mu’azu was nominated by the Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yugudaand seconded by Senator Ndoma Egba, the Senate. He was sworn in almost immediately after.
Mu’azu served as Governor of Bauchi State from 1999 to 2007. He was appointed as Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency(NIMASA) in 2011 and in Novembner 2013, he was appointed as the Chairman of the National Pension Commission.
Mu’azu’s appointment as PENCOM Chairman raised some dust especially because the EFCC was yet to clear him on a case of alleged misappropriation of about N 19.8 billion belonging to Bauchi State during his time as Governor.
