. Burns 2,000 Houses
Konduga town, the headquarters of Konduga Local Government area of Borno State was on Tuesday thrown into mourning as suspected members of the Boko Haram sect attacked the town, killing 39 people and leaving more than 50 others injured. More than 2, 000 houses were also burnt in the attack. Witnesses disclosed that more tthan 80% of the town was destroyed by the insurgents who came with two armoured personnel carriers and Hilux trucks.
All important buildings in the town including the house of the district head, mosques, schools, hospital and office of the Agric Ministry were razed.
Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima could not hold back tears when he visited the town on Tuesday. He described the killings and destruction as needless. The Governor directed that N100m should be released for relief materials to the indigenes most of who have been rendered homeless.
