Court Dismisses Ladoja’s Appeal, Tells Him To Go & Face Trial!

The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, in his bid to have the criminal charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission quashed.
In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Saheed Bagir, the powers of the EFCCC to prosecute offenders under the Money Laundering Act were upheld.
The court also pointed out that in accordance with the provisions of Section 7(2) of the EFCC Act, the anti-graft commission had powers to charge and prosecute the appellants.
The court therefore refused the appeal and ordered the appellants to face their trial before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The EFCC had first arraigned Senator Ladoja and Waheed Akanbi, one of his former aides on a 10-count charge bordering on money laundering.
The anti-graft agency accused the former Governor of purchasing an armoured Land Cruiser at the cost of about N 42 million while £ 600, 000 was also remitted to one Bimpe Ladoja in England.
