The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)’s System Review initiative, a pro-active measure, for curbing corruption in Nigeria has received a boost, from the Public Service Training Institute of Nigeria (PSIN)
Both the ICPC and the PSIN have decided to team up in partnership on System Study of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).
The accord was struck when the Administrator of PSIN, Dr Shehu Abubakar, with his board members paid a courtesy visit to the ICPC Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta on Wednesday.
The ICPC Chairman said the partnership with the Institute on System Study was to identify corruption prone processes in MDAs and offer necessary advice on ways to ensure its eradication.
He said, “Our partnership is critical because when I was going through your Act, I discovered that we could actually collaborate not only in the area of training but also in terms of joint system studies.
“We should look at both the civil service and the public service and identify the processes or areas that are corruption prone and offer advice on its prevention”.
He noted the huge appetite of Nigerians for foreign training programmes was not in the interest of the country. He said the benefits of all the first class training institutions in the country was yet to be fully appreciated.
The ICPC boss, however, called for the implementation of a national policy on integrated human resource development to enhance utilization of indigenous training institutions in the country especially by Civil Servants.
In his remark, Abubakar commended the ICPC for its remarkable achievements and higher tempo in the fight against corruption ever since the current Board was inaugurated.
He said the visit was to solicit more patronage from the Commission and identify areas of collaboration to enhance human resource development.
“All I can assure you is that we give value for money and we are fully committed to ensuring that we offer much more than what is obtainable in foreign training institutions” he added.
