Ogun Police Denies Bank Robbery in MFM Prayer City

The Ogun State Police Command has debunked the story making making the rounds that a bank in the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Prayer City was attacked by armed robbers. The PRO of the Command, Muyiwa Adejobi (DSP) issued a statement in which he debunked the story which came out in some dailies. Below is the full text of the statement:

“The attention of the Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to a publication on pages 4 and 5 of the Punch Newspaper Friday 10th February Edition captioned “ROBBERS ATTACK BANK IN MFM PRAYER CITY” where a wrong version of the incident was reported.

The command wishes to put the records straight that the suspected robbers only attempted to break one of the ATMs in the MFM City in Ibafo area,Ogun State around 0120hrs of Thursday 13th Feb 2014 before the arrival of the Ibafo Police team  which dispersed the robbers and they(robbers) fled the point hurriedly leaving their welding and breaking equipment behind. The equipment recovered at the scene include cylinder containing Methane gas, sledge hammers a ladder (used by the hoodlums to scale the fence) etc.  The police actually foiled the operation as nothing was taken away from the ATM, even the ATM, which was just loaded with money, was only slightly touched by welding fire and not damaged.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command DSP Muyiwa Adejobi never confirmed any robbery attack on bank in MFM prayer city as reported in the publication under reference but praised the foiled robbery operation by the police.  The command wishes to state that ‘misuse of words is the greatest cause of errors’; and we should remind ourselves that there is a great discrepancy between robbery attack and attempt to rob.

Hoodlums will always attempt to perpetrate their evil acts but the law enforcement agencies are always available to curtail them. The Policemen who actually responded to the distress calls and foiled the ATM robbery have been commended by the public.

The command therefore appeals to the general public to disregard the publication under reference and take note that the police will not allow any ugly incident to be recorded in the whole Ogun state as all hands are on deck to provide adequate security of lives and property for all and sundry in the state.

Thanks”.
