…Threatens Massive Protest
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has given the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led government 72 hours to ensure that the three leaders, and chieftains of the party kidnapped on Wednesday are released unhurt.
The abducted PDP officers include the Port Harcourt Local Government PDP Chairman, Ikechi Chinda, the former member representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency I, in the House of Representatives, Hon Chinyere Igwe and Alwell Ihunda, all close associates of Hon Austin Okpara, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The State PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah gave the order while briefing newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday. The State PDP chairman expressed regrets that less than two weeks of the deployment of the former Police Commissioner in the State, Mbu Joseph Mbu, such crimes were being recorded. He noted that while Mbu was the police chief in Rivers State, there was no such high profile kidnap.
The State Chairman said the PDP would mobilize the entire Rivers people to embark on the mother of all protests as has never been witnessed in the state before if the abducted members are not released within 72 hours.
The State PDP chairman recalled that only last week was another staunch member of the PDP murdered in cold blood in Ibaa, Emohua Local Government Area of the State, a situation he described as unfortunate and unacceptable.
