Not less than 67 people have been killed in Katsina State as a result of attacks by scores of gunmen believed to be cattle rustlers.
According to residents, about 100 armed men on motorcycles on Tuesday and Wednesday evening invaded Kurar Mota, Marabar Maigora, Sabon Layin Galadima, Unguwar Doka, and Maigora, all in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
A witness, from Maigora disclosed that at least 27 people were killed in his hometown, Maigora while about 21 people were killed at Sabon Layin Galadima; while 40 people were killed at Marabar Maigora; 7 in Kurar Mota and another 8 in Unguwar Doka.
The victims, many of whom are women and children, are believed to have been set ablaze inside their houses.
The attackers are believed to be cattle rustlers who came on a reprisal mission as many of them had been arrested and handed over to the police in recent times.
The PRO of the Katsina State Police Command, Aminu Abubakar could not be reached for comments and the actual casualty figure.
While speaking on the BBC Hausa Service, Abbas Machika, a member of the National Assembly in the area said 67 people were killed in the attack, though some residents have put the body count at 103.
