
The spate of killings and bombings by the Boko Haram sect in the Borno State Capital, Maiduguri has led to suspension of league matches in the State.
Members of the sect struck again early on Friday, attacking an Army barrack having passed through the University of Maiduguri, causing pandemonium and paralysing activities in the city.
Some hours after the attack the League Management Company announced the suspension of the Nigeria Professional Football League matches scheduled for Maiduguri.
El Kanemi Football Club which s based in Maiduguri also announced that its game which had been slated for next week with Abia Warriors has been shifted.
The Friday morning attack sent many people running around for safety, especially those who were already on their way to work.The attack was also said to have triggered an exodus from the city as some people have decided to move from the city for fear of being hit.
The match between El Kanemi and Abia Warriors is a star match expected to be watched by a lot of people.
The cancellation of the big match was said to be for the fear of attack by Boko Haram on the spectators and players.
