A probable harvest of deaths was on Tuesday averted at the Station Road Branch of First Bank in Osogbo, capital of the State of Osun.
The bomb was detected and subsequently defused by men of the Anti-Bomb Squad of the Police.
Customers and staff of the bank heaved a sigh of relief as they thanked God the device was detected.
The b which was wrapped in a bag was discovered by a security guard attached to the bank. Street Journal gathered that right after the discovery, staff and customers were evacuated after an official announcement had been made by one of the senior officers in the bank.
The bomb squad later moved in to defuse the device but in the process of doing so, a better part of the Station Road was cordoned off. Shop owners in the area too hurriedly shut their businesses after they had heard of a bomb in the vicinity.
Mrs Folasade Odoro, the PPRO of the Osun State Police command could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.
The detection of the planted bomb came less than a week after two loud explosions killed about 51 people in Maiduguri, Borno State.
