As part of its continued war against jungle justice and cultism, the Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 7 suspects who tried to kill a man in Oke Ola area of Ilese ijebu around 8 am on Thursday.
The spokesman of the command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi stated that the victim of the attack, Dare Okanlawon, of Ijebu Imushin, entered a restaurant owned by one Mrs. Queen Omonigho at Oke Ola Ilese Ijebu to have his breakfast when the said owner of the restaurant met him asking questions from her daughter and the raised a false alarm of attempted kidnapping.
He stated further that the attackers used dangerous weapons like cutlass, bottles and heavy sticks on the victim and inflicted varying degrees of injuries on him before he was rescued by the policemen attached to Ilese Divisional Headquarters.
“After our investigation, the owner of the restaurant Queen Omonigho, Abraham Adenuga, and Samson Masebinu, who have confessed to the offence of wounding the victim and were directly involved, out of the 7 suspects arrested, have been charged to Chief magistrate Court 1 Ijebu Ode with case number MIJ/176c/2014 today Friday 2nd May while the rest were released on bail”, Adejobi said.
In another development, the command has also commenced investigation into the case of arson recorded in Ilaro on Wednesday, when some angry youths burnt down a house belonging to one Gabreal Olafenwa of No 32,Dosumu Street, Orita,Ilaro on the allegation that the house was being used by ritualists.
Adejobi pointed out that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye has ordered the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran Abeokuta to take over the case as there were some questions to be answered by certain individuals and some Local government officials in the area.
In a statement signed by the PPRO, the command assured the general public of adequate security of lives and property and thorough and sound investigation of all cases brought to the notice of the police in the Ogun State.
