The Police spokesman also told Street Journal that the anti crime patrol team attached to Odogbolu Division of the command, on Monday recovered a snatched Luxury Bus belonging a transport company in Lagos while on transit to Port Harcourt with its occupants mostly passengers at about 2330hrs.
In a statement made available to Street Journal, it was contained that some armed men who were suspected to be robbers had blocked the Sagamu/Benin Expressway with a truck at Odogbolu area and snatched the Luxury Bus with registration number LSD 235 XJ with the passengers inside. The police team while responding to a distress call gave them a hot chase which compelled them to abandon the bus and flee into the bush. The bus was recovered with the occupants unhurt and intact.
The statement reads in part: “The command has viewed the case of snatching a Luxury bus from many angles and the Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Okoye Ikemefuna has ordered the Department of Criminal Investigation to look into the matter as such.”We can’t just see it as a robbery incident but we need to widen the scope of our investigation.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police has directed that the fleeing robbers, particularly the injured ones be apprehended while the affected investigation teams collaborate with medical practitioners and traditional healers in the area for their arrest since they will surely visit them (medical practitioners) for treatment.
The command will not in anyway relent in its bid to make Ogun State safe for all and sundry particularly the major expressways in the state.
While appreciating those who put distress calls through to the police on these incidents on our highways, CP Okoye gives kudos to the gallant operation officers who were members of these teams that carried out the operations and assured them of his unalloyed support to perform their duties even better.
He also restated his commitment to provide adequate security for lives and property of the people in the state and those on transit within Ogun State”.
