Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, today said that his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) had no option than to accept the result of Saturday’s election in Ekiti which was won convincingly by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Ayo Fayose.
He said the beauty of democracy is that the will of the people must prevail at all times.
Aregbesola, in a statement by his Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy, Semiu Okanlawon, reacted to the outcome of the governorship poll in Ekiti on Saturday.
He said if the result that declared Ayo Fayose the winner was the true reflection of the people’s decision and desires, his party would have no option but to accept the outcome.
He said a true democrat must be ready to embrace defeat just as he would be quick to embrace victory in all genuine democratic contests.
The Osun governor however cautioned that while recognising the will of the people in the attempt to institute real democracy in Nigeria, all institutions of state must be deployed in manners that promote and edify democratic tenets.
The Osun state governor also reassured the people of Osun concerning hisAugust 9 reelection bid.
He expressed the APC’s confidence of winning the election saying the support base for his party and government remained unflinching.
