Emefiele, new CBN Governor to unveil agenda

The new Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Godwin Emefiele, would on Thursday unveil the agenda of the apex bank under his leadership.

A statement, signed by Isaac Okoroafor for the CBN Director, Corporate Communications, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday said that the new governor officially reported for duty on Tuesday.

Emefiele is the 10th indigenous CBN governor, the statement said.

It said that Emefiele arrived at the apex bank premises in Abuja at 7:30a.m. on Tuesday and was welcomed by the four deputy governors and staff, led by Dr Sarah Alade, whose tenure as Acting CBN Governor ended on Monday.

“The new CBN governor is expected to have a maiden World Press Conference on Thursday, 5 June, where he will unveil his agenda for the Central Bank of Nigeria and the people of Nigeria,” it said.

The statement added that the governor at the formal handing over ceremony commended Alade and other deputy governors as well as members of the media for gracing his first day in office.

Emeifele was appointed to replace the former CBN Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who was suspended from office by President Goodluck Jonathan in February.

He was the former Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank Nigeria Plc with over 20 years of banking management experience.

He is a 1984 graduate of Banking and Finance from University of Nigeria, Nsukka and had an MBA Degree in Finance in 1986 from the same University.

He is also an alumnus of Executive Education from Stanford University, California; Harvard University (2004) and Wharton Graduate School of Business (2005).
