Barely a day after the police anti-robbery team attached to Mowe Division of Ogun State engaged some robbers in a gun battle near Redemption Youth Camp along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway leaving one of the robbers dead and recovered a snatched vehicle from them,the Special Anti Robbery Squad of Ogun State Police Command engaged another gang of armed robbers in a fierce gun duel on Monday 9th June at about 0200hrs at their hideout in Epe area of Lagos state leaving 2 of the robbers dead,while 3 of them were arrested with fatal bullet wounds.
It would be recalled that one of the members of the gang,Ahmed Yusuff, was arrested on 25th April 2014 at Dalemo Otta Ogun State after snatching a Benz ML Jeep from the owner; and the said Ahmed,in the course of police investigation, agreed to lead the SARS Team to their hideout in Epe Lagos State before the gun battle.
According to the PRO of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, DSO, those arrested with fatal bullet wounds included Adeyinka Olajuwon, Isiaka Salawu and a woman, Jumoke Odukoya.
Adejobi also disclosed that some of the members escaped with bullet wounds, he however stated that efforts are in top gear to get them arrested.
Many weapons were recovered from them which included one assault 06 rifle with No 07003808 with two magazines loaded with eighteen(18) rounds of ammunition,3(three) cut-to-size single barrel pistols,2(two) cut-to-size double barrel guns,10(ten) life cartridges,one axe and some assorted charms.
The Commissioner of Police Ogun state CP Ikemefuna Okoye has commended the teams for the good job done particularly the follow-up of the case to achieve this laudable result. He also urged the general public particularly medical practitioners to help be on the look-out for the wounded fleeing robbers who may come in contact with them in their attempt to seek treatment.
The Commissioner of Police also directed the Officer In Charge of SARS Ogun state SP Mohammed Tijani to make sure he gets the fleeing members of the gang arrested and recover their arms wherever they are kept.
CP Ikemefuna therefore assured the good people of Ogun state of adequate protection of lives and property in all nookes and crannies of Ogun State.
