Police Arrest 6 Over Foiled Plot to Bomb Winners’ Chapel

The Imo State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the discovery of two Improvised Explosive Devices in Winners Chapel in Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.
DSP Andrew Enwerem, the PRO of the command disclosed that the police was alerted to strange objects at
the entrance of the church around midnight on Saturday.
He said bomb experts were drafted to the church to sweep the area.
Enwerem said “during their check, it was discovered that Improvised
Explosive Devices in forms of refrigerator compressor
concealed in sack bags were discovered. One was promptly detonated at the scene because it was on a timer. The other one was dis-alarmed and then taken away
for detonation.”
He however said those arrested have not been directly linked to planting the IEDs.
He said they were arrested “because we believe we might be able to
obtain information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators from them.”
He also disclosed that investigations are on to unravel how the bombs found their way to the church.
Findings revealed that the bombs might have been timed to explode during the Sunday service when worshippers have gathered.
