Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Lamido Sanusi Lamido, has been named the new Emir of Kano.
Governor Rabi’u Kwakwanso confirmed his appointment via his Twitter account. “It’s official: the new Emir of Kano is former CBN governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,” @kwankwaso_rabiu tweeted.
Sanusi succeeds the late Alhaji Ado Bayero who died last Friday.
Following the announcement, people trooped out to protest. Bonfires were set up in parts of the city.
Before the former CBN Governor was announced as the Emir, many had sent congratulatory messages to the Ciroman Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, the firsy son of the late Emir. Even Mallam Lamido Sanusi had announced via his twitter handle that Ado Bayero had been chosen.
It is believed in some quarters that the choice of Lamido Sanusi was largely influenced by national chieftains of the All Progressive Congress, some of whom had been in Kano since Friday.
