The new Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was on Monday turbaned at a ceremony held inside the Arewa Hall in the Kano State Government House.
Mallam Sanusi Lamido was announced as the 14th Emir of Kano on Sunday.
The new Emir entered the hall dressed for the occasion at 12.44 pm.
The Walin Kano, Mahe Wali gave the opening prayers while the Madaki of Kano gave a short speech after.
The Governor, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso gave his opening speech in Hausa language, in accordance with the tradition of the city in the last two centuries. He pointed out that “the appointment of an Emir is not a political issue.” The Governor went further to say “it is unfortunate that some enemies of Kano State attempted to politicize this process.”
Governor Kwankwaso also disclosed that the “Kano State Government has built a befitting palace for the large family of the late Emir in Sharada. He said the keys will be handed over to the family today to the family to move in. “
“His Royal Highness Sanusi Lamido Sanusi ” was not only on the recommended list of the kingmakers but was on top of the list”, Kwankwaso said.
Princes later came out to pay homage to the new Emir one after the other.
