Ahead of the gubernatorial election scheduled for June 21 in Ekiti State, soldiers on Thursday intercepted a truckload of fake ballot
papers around Ita Awure on the Ilesha-Ado Road in Ekiti
The ballot papers were being conveyed in a truck marked “Adewole F. Odunayo Enterprises”. The soldiers also arrested the occupants of the truck.
Investigations have commenced as efforts are being made to ascertain where the ballot papers originated from.
The occupants, Biodun Erinfolami, Olufemi Ose and Akanbi Oluwasegun were paraded by the Commander of the 32 Arrtilery Brigade, Akure, Brig. Gen Aliyu Mamman.
The resident electoral commissioner in the state, Alhaji Aliyu Pai however said the ballot papers were waste materials and they around of no significance to the June 21 elections.
He said “it is approved by the National Commission for the company to evacuate the obsolete materials to enable us prepare for the coming election because these are junks that have filled the store.
“There is an approval by the National Commission. They are known to us and they are in no way connected to this election. They are materials of 2007, 2009 and there is approval for its evacuation.”
