The Election Petitions’ Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday rejected a subordinate ex-parte motion filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in which it asked that officers of the Nigerian Army be used in the inspection of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) materials used in the last governorship election in Ekiti State.
The motion was filed by the PDP in its bid to defend the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress, that there were irregularities in the recently held election.
The Tribunal ruled that “the use of soldiers in any election is not a productive conduct but a characteristic insignia of intimidation.”
The Tribunal had earlier granted the prayer of the APC to proceed on an inspection of the materials used during the election.
