PDP Tackles Aregbesola on Project Funding

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Osun State chapter, has demanded a detailed account of how the state’s allocation and other funds collected by the administration of Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, since the beginning of his administration.
The party, in a release by its Director of Media and Publicity, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said the party is making the request now that it is established that all the projects that the Osun state government had long before now claimed to be its projects are either funded by federal government or with local governments allocations.
The party said it welcomed the admittance by the government spokesperson, Mr. Sunday Akere that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan through UBEC, built all elementary and middle schools in the state, while those roads executed at local government are paid for by all council areas in the state.
The party further queried: “With the facts at our disposal, Ogbeni Aregbesola has received over #300 billion from the federation account since he took over as the governor of the state.
“All elementary and middle schools in Osun state are built by UBEC, all High Schools were constructed with SUKUK bond, Osogbo/Ila Odo road originally designed and partly executed by a PDP government, is being funded by Bank of Infrastructure, Abuja, another establishment of the Federal Government, so where is the state allocation?”
“Both Aiyegbaju and Aje markets are being funded by private organisations, while Ring Road in Osogbo and Gbongan Road are being financed by contractors themselves. We are left with no option, as indigenes to demand for account of what Aregbesola has earned”
In spite of not spending state’s earnings on any capital projects, we are amazed that the debt burden of the state is still in excess of #300billion.”
The opposition party further alleged that despite huge amount being expended on projects, quality of the jobs done is still suspect.
“We heard that the bullet proof armoured vehicles Aregbesola recently distributed were locally fabricated, even though he said they were imported, thereby fleecing the state of several billions. We also learnt that during the unfortunate bank raid in Modakeke, tyres of the vehicles were deflated with bullets, rendering them ineffective.
“Also, the buses he recently paraded as scholars’ buses are inclusive of those ones he forced private schools owners in the state to paint in yellow colour”
“It is regrettable that the poor quality job of Osun state government has continued to endanger lives in the state.
The High School in Ejigbo was financed with SUKUK bond is another example.
“The only quality contract under the present administration that is functioning well is the helicopter bought by Aregbesola with which it has transverse the entire country, ” Odeyemi concluded.
