Again, Germany Beats Nigeria To Lift Women’s World Cup

Nigeria’s female U-20 national team, the Falconets on Monday lost the final match of the Women’s World Youth Championship to their counterparts from Germany. The game was played at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada.
The two sides were separated by a goal which came from Lene Petermann in the eight minute of extra time. The match dragged that far as a result of the failure of both sides to convert the chances they had in regulation time.
Germany’s win marked the third time the country would be lifting the trophy.
Though the Nigerians played better as they consistently threatened the German defence, the closest they got to the net was an 85th minute header from Asisat Oshoala which was ruled offside.
While it was sweet victory for the Germans, the Nigerians felt the pains of losing to old rivals, having been defeated by Germany in the final of the 2010 edition of the competition.
German goalkeeper, Kaemper was the player of the match while Oshoala was the highest scorer in the tournament.
