Boko Haram Declares Gwoza as Capital of Its Islamic Caliphate

Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the Boko Haram terrorist organization has released a new video in which he declared areas under his group’s control a caliphate and showed scenes of carnage carried out by his fighters against unarmed civilians.
The video, which is the most gruesome since the beginning of the release of video footages by the sect also showed Nigerian soldiers fleeing from approaching insurgents. Part of it also showed two men who dressed as women being beaten to death with shovels. Some others were also seen executed beside a pit filled with what appeared to be corpses.
Shekau stated in the video that he will leave nothing undone to gain more territories from Nigeria. In the 52-minute video, Shekau vowed that his men will not leave the town.
“Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in the town of Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic caliphate. By the grace of Allah, we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,” Shekau boasted.
Street Journal also gathered that the rulers of the new Islamic state will be seorn in by Abubakar Shekau on Friday amid tight security provided by Boko Haram members.
The Nigerian Defence Headquarters however described Shekau’s claim as empty, stating that “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Nigerian state is still intact. Any group of terrorists laying claim to any portion of the country will not be allowed to get away with the expression of delusion and crime.”
