The Ogun State Police Command on Friday announced the arrest of some fraudsters who hypnotize their victims to dupe them of their belongings. A statement signed by the spokesman of the command, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi revealed that they were arrested at Ibara area, Abeokuta Ogun State on Tuesday.
He stated that “the detectives attached to Ibara Division of the command apprehended the suspects when a woman, one of their victims, reported her ordeals in the hands of the suspects to the police after they had collected some amount of money and valuables from her and many others”.
The suspects operate in commercial taxis or cabs branded with Ogun State color belonging to them and their friends. They look for passengers who they lure into discussions on dirty or attractive dubious businesses. Adejobi noted that ‘careless’ passengers often find themselves compelled to join in the discussion and the fraudsters use that as an advantage to dupe them.
Street Journal’s findings revealed that they normally promise to introduce their victims to “wash wash” or “uncut”, the code name for washing or printing fake foreign currency.
The PPRO disclosed that the suspects have been on the business for a very long time as the kingpin confessed that he used to operate in Lagos before he moved down to Abeokuta Ogun State for his operations.
The suspects include Olabode Toyese,41, Abayomi Odeleye,42, and Kezeem Adeyemo,29. They are from Ondo, Ekiti and Ogun States respectively. They have all confessed to the crime and many others and presently assisting the command in its investigation.
The command urged the general public to be careful so that they will not fall victim of such fraudsters.
The Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Ikemefuna Okoye has directed thorough investigation into the case and make sure other members of the syndicate are apprehended and the matter be charged to court so as to make the suspects face the full wrath of the law.
The Commissioner also appealed to the people of Ogun State to share any useful information with the police so as to assist the command in the matter and curb such crimes vices in the state.
