Police detectives attached to the Otta Division of the Ogun State Police Command recently arrested a “fake policeman” with police uniform and some accoutrements while parading himself as a police officer to the people of the area.
The suspect, 35-year-old Taiwo Agboola of Iyana Ago Idiroko, Ogun State, has been parading himself as a police man over time and has been placed under surveillance by the police detectives in Otta for his arrest when a call was put through to the police of the suspect’s presence in the area in Otta before he was eventually arrested.
While speaking on the arrest, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the PRO of the Command disclosed that “Agboola, who hails from Ile Ife Osun State confirmed that he had been in love with the police job right from his childhood but was discouraged by his late mother; hence his interest in getting police materials and accoutrements for this dirty “business” of investigating and settling cases amicably for his customers”.
Items recovered from the suspect included a police T shirt, Identity card bearing his name with a corporal rank, hand cuff and tear gas.
The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Ikemefuna Okoye has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation Eleweran Abeokuta Ogun State for thorough investigation to detect some facts that will help the police to curb such acts.
Adejobi also told Street Journal that CP Okoye has developed interest in the matter as he believes that the suspect must have perpetrated many wrongful acts capable of denting the precious image of the Nigeria Police with his fake identity.
The Commissioner of Police then appealed to the general public to always call police officers’ attention to suspected or suspicious ‘fake police officers’ who may engage themselves in strange or unethical behaviors around them.
