Osun Holds Governorship Election Amid Tight Security

There was heavy security presence across the length and breadth of Osun State as voters trooped out to elect their choice for the governorship position of the state.
Soldiers, policemen and operatives of the State Security Service as well as men of the Civil Defence Corps were all deployed to the state ahead of the election.
Most people were jolted by the news of the arrest of the national spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Friday. He was reportedly arrested along with some of his aides. Street Journal gathered that they were released on Saturday morning.
As of the time of filing this report, major streets in the capital, Osogbo were deserted while accreditation went on at polling centres.
Accreditation had been completed at most of the polling units in Obokun Local Government and in Otan Ile. Voting is to commence there by 12. 30.
The incumbent Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and his wife, Sherifat were seen at the Ward 8 polling unit, Ifofin Street, Ilesa while the PDP candidate Senator Iyiola Omisore was accredited at the St Gabriel’s school, Ife.
Turnout of voters was low at the Obafemi Awolowo University apparently because of the closure of the institution over increase in tuition fees.
Though there are 20 candidates, the battle is believed to be between the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
