England striker, Danny Welbeck, has opened his goal scoring account for Arsenal as he netted once in the 0-3 bashing of Aston Villa on Saturday. Three goals in three minutes was all Arsenal needed to secure maximum points in their away game to Aston Villa at the Villa Park.
After early chances by both sides which were not converted, the Gunners finally broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute, when midfielder Mesut Ozil received a telegraphic pass from Welbeck, leaving the German in good stead to score a relatively easy goal from 12 yards. Ozil was on hand to return the favour almost immediately when he provided a low cross for Welbeck who made no mistake firing home from close range to register his first goal for Arsenal since making a switch from Manchester United.
Saturday’s goal was the fourth goal for Welbeck in three matches against Villa. Hopes of a rare comeback for the home team effectively extinguished when Villa defender, Aly Cissokho, bundled a wayward Kieran Gibbs shot into his team’s net. The home side failed to muster any threat against Arsenal in the second half and thus caved in for their first defeat of the season. The victory took Arsene Wenger’s men to fourth place on the log while Villa who were hoping they would go top after 90 minutes have dropped to third on the standings.
In another match of the day, Nigeria’s Victor Moses again put up a good display for Stoke City but a late minute equalizer saw him and his teammates settling for a 2-2 draw against QPR.
