Five Die In Abuja Riot, 30 Vehicles Vandalized

No fewer than five persons have been killed and over 30 vehicles destroyed in an ongoing riot caused by a minor motorcycle accident in Dei Dei, Abuja.

While narrating to our source, an eyewitness said it started after a motorcyclist knocked down a woman by the roadside who sustained serious injury, thereby leading to a heated argument between the motorcyclist and sympathizers.

It was gathered that in anger, the motorcyclist brought out a dagger and stabbed five people.

This led to reactions and counter reactions as residents from “around the area started fighting in front of the corner shops by Tomatoes junction around the Timber Shed,” the eyewitness said.

One of the victims of stabbing, which was in the head, died immediately fueling more reactions leading to the death of four others.

Angry residents fought vehemently; smashing and destroying cars as well as burning houses.

The whole area is in mayhem as business men and women have closed down their shops running to safety. Motorists were also seen leaving cars and running for safety causing serious blockage of the road and heavy traffic.

At the time The Streetjournal got to the scene, Policemen and other security agencies have been deployed to the area and all is being done to restore peace. Some of the security men have also sustained injuries in the process.

One of the officers, who begged for anonymity, confirmed the incident with our correspondent, adding that some of the perpetrators have been apprehended.
