Trading activities on the Nigerian stock exchange decreased by 36.15% on Thursday as investors bought 273.11 million shares worth N4.62 billion, in 4,342 deals, compared to 427.76 million shares worth N11.90 billion, in 4,342 deals exchanged on Wednesday. Transcorp Plc, Access bank Plc, and International Breweries Plc were the most actively traded stocks on the exchange today in terms of volume, while International Breweries Plc and Nigerian Breweries Plc, topped in terms of value.
The Nigerian Stock Exchanges-All Share Index depreciated by 0.07% (-29.32) to close at 40,780.00 from 40,809.32 attained on Wednesday. Market capitalisation also decreased to N13.47 trillion from N13.48 trillion the previous trading day. The BGL 50 Index also followed suit with a 0.07% loss to close at 176.06 from 176.07, while the market cap stood at N12.70 trillion from N12.70 trillion recorded on Wednesday.
A total number of 29 stocks gained on the bourse today while 22 stocks declined leaving 51 stocks unchanged. International Breweries Plc emerged the toast of investors as it appreciated by 5.30% to close at N30.01 kobo, followed by Mansard Insurance Plc with a 4.96% gain to close at N2.75. Others on the gainers chart include Custodian and Allied Insurance Plc, Total Nigeria Plc and CAP Plc.
On the flip side Access bank Plc topped the losers chart with 8.65% decline to close at N8.76, followed by Wapic Insurance Plc. which declined by 3.95% to close at N0.73 kobo. Others on the losers table include; P Z Cussons Nigeria Plc, Skye Bank Plc and Lafarge Wapco Plc.
