In what seemed almost impossible last night at the close of Transfer Window in English Premiership, and the fact that the Gunners’ Manager left his duty to officiate in a charity match in Rome, Arsenal has signed Danny Welbeck from Manchester United, the club have announced.
The Gunners, along with Tottenham and Everton, were linked with a move for the forward on transfer deadline after he was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by new manager Louis van Gaal.
And, after bartering over the deal, a transfer worth a reported £16million was finally agreed, with Welbeck signing a long-term deal at the Emirates.
The Man United academy product, 23, scored 20 Premier League goals in 90 appearances across six seasons and has 26 England caps to his name.
In his reaction to the signing, celebrity Gunners fan Piers Morgan claims new Arsenal signing Danny Welbeck can be ‘a cross between Nicolas Anelka and Ian Wright’.
And Morgan has hailed the capture, telling our source: “Danny Welbeck can be a cross between Nicolas Anelka and Ian Wright if Arsenal get this right.
“If you look at the business Arsene Wenger has done this window, then there is an argument to say it is the best window Arsenal have had in the last ten years.
“We haven’t sold any of our top players, apart from Bacary Sagna. They’ve replaced him with Mathieu Debuchy though who, I believe, is a better player.
“We’ve brought in Alexis Sanchez, who is a world class player. Welbeck is exactly the sort of player Arsenal should be trying to sign.
“He’s 23 years old and an England international. He’ll link up well with Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers.
“There’s a good English spine to this team now, which is something that’s been missing in most Wenger teams, post ‘The Invincibles’. This is not a bad window at all.”
