Trading activities on the Nigerian stock exchange increased by 45.31% on Wednesday as investors bought 427.76 million shares worth N11.90 billion, in 4,342 deals, compared to 294.39 million shares worth N3.49 billion, in 5,097 deals exchanged on Tuesday. UBA CAP Plc, AIICO Insurance Plc, and NEM Plc were the most actively traded stocks on the exchange today in terms of volume, while Seplat Plc and Dangote Cement Plc, topped in terms of value.
The Nigerian Stock Exchanges-All Share Index appreciated by 0.67% (+272.12) to close at 40,809.32 from 40,537.20 attained on Tuesday. Market capitalisation also increased to N13.47 trillion from N13.39 trillion the previous trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also followed suit with a 0.79% gain to close at 176.07 from 174.69, while the market cap stood at N12.70 trillion from N12.60 trillion recorded on Tuesday.
A total number of 21 stocks gained on the bourse today while 31 stocks declined leaving 57 stocks unchanged. GlaxoSmithKline Plc emerged the toast of investors as it appreciated by 7.90% to close at N64.74 kobo, followed by Guinness Plc with a 3.45% gain to close at N180.00. Others on the gainers chart include; GTB Plc, Dangote Cement Plc and FCMB Plc.
On the flip side ETI Plc topped the losers chart with a 4.35% decline to close at N18.02, followed by Mobil Plc. which declined by 3.31%% to close at N174.00 kobo. Others on the losers table include; Continental Reinsurance Plc, Forte Oil Plc and Mansard Plc.
