Days after the arrest of some fraudsters who specialize in hypnotizing their victims in Abeokuta, detectives attached to the Anti -robbery Section of the Department of Criminal Investigation Eleweran, Abeokuta have arrested about eleven suspected traditionalists who specialize in defrauding innocent Nigerians at Eruku Village,near Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspects, who were arrested on Saturday, have been operating in the village since 2005. They have a long list of victims who were hypnotized and made to part with large sum of money running into millions of naira.
The spokesman of the Ogun State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi gave the names of the suspects arrested as Akoje Abiola,46, Kolawole Wasiu,43, Akeem Olatunji,37, Adewole James,32, Silifatu Anwo,50, Abimbola Yusuf,47, Adebisi Shobande,35, Saheed Lateef,40, Oriyomi Hassan,29, Adeyemi Samuel,38 and Titilayo Abegunde,52.
Findings revealed that each suspect has a specific role in the business with most of their roles bordering on sourcing for customers or victims.
The prime suspect who owns the shrine where the syndicate operates has allegedly duped many people under the pretense of providing charms and concoctions for protection and prosperity for them. He also claimed to have inherited his powers from his late father many years back.
The police detectives, who acted on a tip off, pounced on them at the shrine on Saturday around 3pm and arrested eleven of them while trying to dupe some people. The victims have shared their ordeals in the hands of the suspects with the police and urged the police to carry out thorough investigation into the matter as many have fallen victim of these dangerous elements who are not fit to thrive in the society.
Many fetish items and figurines were erected and displayed at the shrine for the dirty business while some fake currencies and money-making materials were recovered at the scene of crime.
The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, in company of some officers including the Assistant Commissioner for Police in charge of Department of Criminal Investigation, ACP Aminu Alhassan, Officer in Charge Anti Robbery, SP Emmanuel Oyewole and the Police Public Relations Officer Ogun State DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, had visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment.
The Commissioner of Police has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge to personally supervise the investigation and forward the report to him without delay as all efforts must be geared towards curbing such crimes in Ogun State. He also stressed that the suspects should be charged to court to face the full wrath of the law.
CP Okoye appreciated those who hinted the police on the dirty business of the suspects and promised to intensify efforts toward adequate security for lives and property in the state.
