Stock Market Report: Market Slips As Index Dips By 0.11%


Trading activities on the Nigerian stock exchange increased by 39.52% as investors bought 273.43 million shares worth N2.72 billion, in 4,188 deals, compared to 195.98 million shares worth N2.80 billion, in 4,876 deals exchanged on Wednesday. Unity Bank plc, Transcorp Plc, and Diamond Bank Plc were the most actively traded stocks on the exchange today in terms of volume, while Zenith Bank Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, topped in terms of value.
The Nigerian Stock Exchanges-All Share Index depreciated by 0.11% (-46.04) to close at 40,683.45 from 40,729.49 attained on Wednesday. Market capitalisation also decreased to N13.43 trillion from N13.45 trillion the previous trading day. The BGL 50 Index also followed suit with a lower 0.09% loss to close at 175.39 from 175.55, while the market cap stood at N12.65 trillion from N12.66 trillion recorded on Wednesday.
A total number of 26 stocks gained on the bourse today while 25 stocks declined leaving 51 stocks unchanged. Unilever emerged the toast of investors as it appreciated by 5.00% to close at N50.61, followed by Guinness Plc with a 3.44% gain to close at N176.88. Others on the gainers chart include; Wapic insurance Plc, Stanbic IBTC holdings Plc and Mansard Insurance Plc.
On the flip side, Seplat Petroleum Dev. Co. Ltd. topped the losers chart with a 3.41% decline to close at N652.00, followed by PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc. which declined by 2.57%% to close at N34.08 kobo. Others on the losers table include; Skye Bank Plc, AIICO Insurance Plc and Transcorp Plc.
