Di-Maria Remains A Good Attacking Option – Giggs

Ryan Giggs has lauded Manchester United’s attacking options, saying club-record signing Angel Di Maria can inspire a top-four charge in the Barclays Premier League.

United are looking to register their third successive league victory when they face West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Monday, having recovered from a slow start in which they picked up two points from their opening three matches and lost 5-3 to promoted Leicester City.

“Di Maria excites you. He gets from box to box so quickly, dribbles, makes goals, scores goals and works hard”

Giggs, who won 13 Barclays Premier League titles at Old Trafford before becoming assistant manager, admitted he would have relished playing alongside United’s current forward line. New signings Radamel Falcao and Di Maria, who has scored three goals and provided just as many assists in the league since joining from Real Madrid in August, have regularly featured alongside Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Juan Mata this season.

“It would have been nice to play on the wing when you look over and you’ve got Van Persie, Falcao and Rooney in the middle,” Giggs told premierleague.com before receiving the Legend of Football award at the 2014 HMV Extravaganza in aid of Nordoff Robbins last week. “Di Maria especially excites you. He’s the kind of player you would go and pay good money to go and watch because he gets from box to box so quickly, dribbles, makes goals, scores goals and works hard as well.”

United have a demanding run of fixtures over the next five matchweeks and Giggs believes leaders Chelsea, defending Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City and 2014 FA Cup winners Arsenal will present the Red Devils with a true test of their ambitions to return to the top after finishing seventh last season.

“We have got big games coming up: Chelsea, City, Arsenal,” he said. “We’ll need to be in good form because Chelsea have been the stand-out team along with City. But we feel that we are coming along nicely. The new signings have bedded in well and hitting good form.
