Jonathan, Emir of Kano, Sanusi Mohammed Parley

In a move aimed at resolving their differences, the Emir of Kano and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Mohammed II, on Thursday paid a private visit on President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa.
It was the second since he ascended the Kano throne.

Though what transpired at the meeting was not disclosed, a presidency source said that the visit was aimed at putting their differences aside and working together in the interest of peace and unity of the country.

While the emir was the Governor of the CBN, he accused the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) of not remitting $49.8 billion in oil revenue to the treasury.

He later revised the figure to $12 billion and $20 billion, .

His allegations led to his unceremonious removal from the CBN.

However, Sanusi, with the backing of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), became the Emir of Kano shortly after his ouster.

According to the source, Thursday’s parley was reconciliation between the duo.

The source further said the duo discussed how to ensure peaceful co-existence in the country.

It was also learnt that the emir gave Jonathan the assurance of warm reception in Kano as he prepares for his campaign tour of the country ahead of the 2015 elections.

Sanusi was accompanied to the meeting by all senior members of the Kano Emirate Council, while Vice-President Namadi Sambo, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Aminu Wali, also attended the meeting.
