Ngilari Sacks Adamawa LG Exco For Alleged Fraud

Adamawa State Governor Mr. Bala Ngillari, has suspended the executive committee of the Gombi Local Government Area of the state from office with immediate effect.
A statement on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Ibrahim Welye, indicated that the chairman of the council, Alhaji Rufai Umar, and all the councilors were suspended for alleged gross misappropriation of public funds as contained in an audit report submitted to government.
The two paragraphs statement read, “Pursuant to the powers conferred on His Excellency, the Governor by section 28(2) of the Adamawa State Local Government Administration Law No. 4 of 2000, the Gombi Local Government Council is hereby suspended from office with immediate effect pending further investigation into allegations of gross misappropriation of public funds as contained in an Audit Report submitted to government.”
The council members were directed to surrender all government properties and any other related security documents in their possession to the Head of Service of the local government immediately.
Meanwhile, the Audit Report indicted the former Gombi LG boss of having unaccounted overdraft of N10.6m; payment in
excess of chairman expenditure unit of N22.1m; payment without supporting document of N47.4m; unreceipted payment voucher of N5.2m; and misplaced payment voucher of N34m among others.
Other allegations include the construction of chairman’s house, which was allegedly inflated to N35.3m; outstanding advances against Alhaji Rufai Umar N9m; and LG disbursement not backed by council extracts.
The embattled chairman, Umar, however, stated that his suspension was politically motivated.
He said the present government of the Peoples Democratic Party was victimising him because he defected to the All Progressives Congress.
According to the sacked chairman, when former Governor Murtala Nyako defected to the APC, leaving Ngillari, the then Deputy Governor, in PDP, the impeached governor did not victim Ngilari.
Umar described the scenario as unfortunate, advising the governor to concentrate more on his Madagali Local Government Area, which has been under the seige of Boko Haram for the past three months
