The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday wondered why President Goodluck Jonathan-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is desperate for re-election in spite of “numerous failed promises”.
While playing host to leadership of Ijaw group, under aegis of the Izon-Ibe Global Policy Network (IGPN), at his Edo State residence yesterday, the first civilian governor of Edo State, Chief John Oyegun insisted that Nigeria cannot survive another four years of Jonathan’s administration.
Spokesperson of the group, Dennis Ayubaluyefa, who led the group’s members from the states in the South-South region, declared that “having being dissatisfied and discomfited with the antics, whims and caprices of the ruling party at the top, we have resolved to liaise and associate ourselves to this great party that is under the leadership of Chief John Odigie Oyegun”.
Oyegun, while commending the courage and commitment of the group even in the face of harassment and intimidation, said: “The biggest issue facing our nation today really is that we are now saddled with a party and with a President who have totally run out of steam and ideas, and there is no question about that.
“Everything that is going on today and the vulgarity of the campaign going on – whether it is TAN, gives us that singular impression of a party that has reached the end of the road and has nothing else to offer.
“And they know that it is only retention of power that will make that possible and it is ready to go any length whatsoever just to retain power and not to bring hopes to the lives of the people they are governing. Because retaining power is the only protection that they think they have.
“We are so happy to see youths, particularly from your environment, doing what you are doing because this country needs to be salvaged, and I have said it before that the country cannot survive another fours year of PDP under the current environment. Some of their goons have tried to misinterpret that to mean if APC does not win, Nigeria will collapse, no.
“It is clear that we are heading towards anarchy and there is no question about that, but thank God that our security forces are finally sitting up in the north east after the so-called revolt by the rank and file, after their wives came out to protest against sending their husband to untimely death after it was clear that there were so many fifth columnists even in the military such that Nigeria was beginning to lose territory.
“So, these are the problem, there is no single one promise that has been kept by this government. You talk of the east west road, it is a shame that we are talking about it more than 40 years after it was conceived, works started over 30 years ago, after we have had our man in office for six solid years”
John Oyegun was named the substantive chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in June this year as the first to occupy such a position since the merging of the opposition parties to unseat the the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
