Speaking at a press briefing in his Ugwu-Orji Glass House in Owerri, the Imo State capital over the weekend, Iwuanyanwu opined that “This meeting should discuss the security of South East. We do not need to wait until we are attacked before we start discussing security problems. From this meeting, security committee may be set up to work closely with the five governors of South Eastern Nigeria in detecting any sign of security breach and advise on the best way to tackle them”.

He expressed fear that if nothing serious was done the insurgency would spread to other parts of the country.

The politician called on leaders of the country from the Northern region to rise to the challenge and support government efforts to bring normalcy to the areas and to the country at large,

Ahead of the 2015 elections, Iwuanyanwu expressed fears that Nigeria might break up if the current political heat being raised in the polity continues unabated.

Iwuanyanwu stated that if the 2015 elections were not properly handled, situations could deteriorate further to a point that it might be very difficult to control, saying every patriotic Nigerian should be more concerned “at this point with the unity, progress, peace and prosperity of our country”

He called for all political parties in the country, including the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressives Congress, APC and others to field people from the South South region as their presidential candidates and enable them serve out their remaining four years, saying this would reduce rancour and unnecessary bloodshed that were associated with general elections.

In his words, “I therefore strongly suggest that since South South Region has gone for four years out of the constitutional eight years, South South should be allowed to complete the eight years”.

To the people of South East who had been yearning to lead the country, Iwuanyanwu appealed to them to subjugate their ambition to the unity, peace and stability of the country by supporting the South South in 2015.

“After South South has completed its tenure of eight years, the presidency willnaturally return to the North. In effect, in four years time, all Nigerians will support will support the presidency going to the North. After eight years in the North, the presidency will come back to the South. When it comes back to the South, it will automatically be the turn of the South East since South West and South South have taken their turn.”, he said.

Iwuanyanwu called on leaders in the country to subjugate their individual and group interest to national interest.

On the ongoing continuous voters registration across the country, the elder statesman urged those who were yet to register in the past to do so as according to him, the voters card is their passport to ensure that leaders of their choice were given the opportunity to lead the country at levels of government

To the Igbo and South East region, he said the voters card was an indication of population of the zone, adding that the voter registration was a chance to correct the the usual anomaly contested by the south east over the population of the region.

A big part of Nigeria’s problem is the fundamental lack of understanding of democracy – The South South does not have a “constitutional 8 years” They sound like whining children who threaten to cause havoc if things do not go their way.

Besides how convenient to leave out the fact that GEJ has served for 6 years – but who is counting?
