Amid a mop-up operation being carried out by security operatives in the Yobe state capital, indications are rife that the rate of casualty in the Boko Haram’s attack on Damaturu in the early hours of today could be as high as 80.
A hospital source at the Sani Abatcha General Hospital said, corpses are being brought to the hospital at intervals since the incident occurred.He said the over all number of those being brought in dead were up to 70
Another source, disclosed that as at 3.30 pm today, it was difficult to ascertain the number of casualty in the Boko Haram battle with security forces, because no one dared ventured to go out of his house.
He said, “Whatever you heard about Damaturu today may be true as well as false because nobody was outside to see what is happening.
We have all been indoors praying. What we are hearing even as we speak is gunshots and military fighter jets hovering around and throwing bombs.
A hospital source, who said he was not authorized to speak to Press told our correspondent that, so far 22 were confirmed dead while over 50 brought in to the hospital were in critical situation.
” We hope they recover but I doubt that possibility at the moment. We are still waiting as the dead victims are still being evacuated.
