Five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) including, Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom, Sule Lamido of Jigawa and Issa Yuguda of Bauchi on Thrsday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo in what bookmakers said was a last minute attempt to him back into the party.
Obasanjo has of late been a virulent critic of the PDP, in particular, President Goodluck Jonathan whose performance he said has been below average.
The governors in their meeting with the former president expressed view that the situation of things in the country demanded that every Nigerian should come to bail the country out of its present predicament.
However, Obasanjo told his visitors that the current economic and security situations in the country are redeemable..
He said that the country could still be salvaged if those involved had genuine concern for the well-being of the citizenry.
He said that his current posture was not to witch-hunt anyone but to find a lasting solution to the nation’s many challenges.
“Something can still be done and what are required now are the will and the courage to do something when and how it needs to be done.
“We have discussed most of what I have raised in my own public pronouncement in recent times, which is not to castigate anybody, not to bad-mouth anybody and not to run anybody down.
