Former Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom, Umana Okon Umana has won the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which was conducted in Akwa Ibom state on Thursday.
Umana’s victory at the primary was landslide, just as he defeated his opponents by a wide margin.
The APC governorship primary which was conducted in Uyo township stadium, Akwa Ibom State saw Umana winning a total vote of 2, 444 votes as against six votes polled by Senator John Akpanudoedehe.
Group Captain Enwang who also featured in the primary scored one vote while Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong got two votes.
While announcing his decampment into APC about a week ago, the former Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom promised to run a more transparent government with efforts to halt the reign of impunity, cultism and general bad governance in the state.
Umana, moved to APC against the backdrop of a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to scheme out all eligible governorship aspirants from the race just to promote the candidate anointed by the state governor, Emmanuel Udon on the basis of PDP zoning the governorship poll to Eket Senatorial district.
The National Headquarters of PDP had endorsed the decision by the PDP in Akwa Ibom to use a zoning formula for determining the PDP governorship primary in the sate
