Boko Haram Islamic militants are not about to give up attempt on Damaturu the capital of Yobe state as reports are rice that they have continue to dare the Nigerian soldiers who have been making attempts to contain them.
Newspot Nigeria learnt that the insurgents are visibly eager to take Damaturu on the basis that doing so would serve as a short cut for them to realise their desire to declare an Islamic State in Nigeria.
It would be the third time Boko Haram would be making attempts at taking over Damaturu in the past few months, whereas each of the attempts had been frustrated by soldiers who vehemently repelled them.
The insurgents, according to the locals had mustered the courage to enter into the Yobe state capital, having successfully taken over Baga in Borno state to gain free access to supply of arms and ammunitions specifically from Niger and Chad.
Reports just filtering in are indicating that residents of Damaturu have been fleeing the city in droves to avoid being captured and taken as hostages by the insurgents.
Already, scores of the terrorists, residents and some soldiers were said to have been killed in the attack, which started around 8pm on Friday.
According to reports, heavy fighting was still ongoing as at Saturday evening as Nigerian troops are said to be making frantic efforts to repel the insurgents.
