Rape incidents in Ekiti State recently took an usual dimension as an 85-year-old man was held for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl and a 25-year-old young man was also held for allegedly raping a 85-year-old woman.
In a release made available to Sunday Sun yesterday by the State’s Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Mr. Victor Babayemi, the Police detectives in Ikole Division, Ikole-Ekiti said they arrested one Pa Olajide Ojo, 85, who resides at B22, Oke Ode Idogun Street, Ikole –Ekiti for defiling a 12- year- old girl on December 24, 2014. The next day, December 25, 2014, one Familola Ayodeji, 25, residing at 17, Oke Ido Street, Ido-Ekiti, was also nabbed by the operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigation, (CID), Ado- Ekiti, for allegedly raping an 85-year-old great grand mum.
While the rape victim of Pa Ojo was on street trading when she was allegedly lured into the room by the suspect under the pretence that he wanted to buy pounded yam from the girl, Ayodeji’s victim, a great grand mother, was asleep when the suspect allegedly sneaked into her room, bolted the door and forcefully took advantage of her.
The police further alleged that Ojo locked the door as soon as the young hawker entered and forcefully defiled her. The cry of the girl was said to have attracted neighbours, who promptly alerted the police. Detectives responded promptly and arrested the suspect after taking the victim to the hospital. “The medical report as well as the blood stained exhibits recovered from the scene confirmed that the victim was defiled by the suspect. He will be charged to court as soon as the industrial action embarked upon by judiciary staff is called off, “ the PPRO, said.
Babayemi further said that Ayodeji, who had the grandma as his victim, initially went into hiding after committing the act but was caught in the dragnet spread for him by detectives. Medical report, according to the police PPRO, also confirmed that the grandma was raped by the suspect on the said day. The police vowed to charge Ayodeji to court soon.
