Shagari, Other Leaders Shun PDP Guber Rally In Sokoto

The Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto has flagged off its governorship campaign in Sokoto, as prominent leaders of the party including the Deputy Governor, Mukhtar Shagari, former Minister Yusuf Suleiman and Abubakar Umar Gada stayed away.

The aggrieved PDP leaders had complained of being short-changed during the governorship primary conducted by the party, while the part failed to address their points of grievances.

But speaking at the flag off ceremony held at Shehu Kangiwa Square, yesterday in Sokoto, the party gubernatorial candidate, Ambassador Abdallah Wali, said his administration will not condone misplaced priority.

“We are endowed but efforts are not being made to tap them for productive purposes for our people. The people of Sokoto state don’t need the beautification and upgrading of hotels”, he said.

He also promised to boost the state economic values through ensuring functional industries and agricultural development.

The gubernatorial candidate also vowed to emphasise the articulation of responsive projects development if elected in the forthcoming poll.

Wali noted that the party wants to form a government of sound and responsive vision for the benefit of an average person in Sokoto state and Nigeria.

Also Speaking at the rally, former governor of the state, Attahiru Bafarawa, urged members of the party not to shame the confidence he had in them.

According to him, “this is the last and final bus stop where we are planning to bid goodbye to Wamakko for Wali to take over”, he said.

The former DPP presidential candidate explained that he had been the source of political pride for many Sokoto politicians, including incumbent governor Wamakko, adding “I have been so passionate and helpful in grooming many people that are in government in the state.

“I will not want to betray the trust PDP has put in me, this is why I am leading you on the path of victory”, he pointed out.

He noted that he had achieved a lot politically and that it was time members and supporters of PDP in the state to avoid the game of deceit by the opposition.

“But you can’t get power while sleeping or lying down. The crowd today is a testimony that PDP is ready and willing to deliver the state from the wrecks of the opposition”, he vowed.
